A Boston man with a prior history of sex trafficking convictions, which had been vacated, is now being detained for a dangerousness hearing following new rape charges, according to Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden. Anthony Dew, 42, of Dorchester, has been charged with one count of aggravated rape and is being held without bail. A hearing is scheduled for Friday, as reported by the District Attorney's Office.
The accusations stem from an incident over the weekend when, at approximately 2:12 a.m. on Sunday, Boston police were called to a disturbance on Evelyn Street. The responding officers found a woman with disheveled clothing and appearing to be covered in blood, who identified Dew as her attacker. Dew had previously been convicted on sex trafficking, assault, and drug charges, but his convictions were vacated in 2023 by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court due to a ruling of ineffective counsel, as stated by the District Attorney's Office.
In the attack, the victim reportedly sustained extensive injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to a news release from the Suffolk District Attorney's Office, Dew became verbally aggressive with officers upon arriving at the scene and displayed scratches consistent with the victim's account. "This was a terrible, violent attack, and one likely to have lasting emotional and physical impacts on the victim," Hayden said.
The Suffolk DA's office also extended a message to victims of sexual and domestic violence, highlighting available resources. Organizations such as SafeLink and RAINN offer support and assistance. For immediate emergencies, the DA's office recommends calling 911. SafeLink can be reached at 877-785-2020, RAINN at 800-656-4673, and The Network/La Red provides additional support for the LGBTQ+ community experiencing violence at 617-742-4911 or 800-832-1901.
