Authorities in Oakland County are investigating a series of threats that were directed at South Lyon East High School. The threats emerged on social media with one post stating, "guys imma shoot up the school tomorrow", which was brought to the administration's attention by an astute student around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, reported The Detroit News.
Oakland County Sheriff's Office swiftly sprang into action as the South Lyon Community School District barred three students from school properties during the ongoing investigation, CBS News Detroit informed readers. The seriousness of such threats is magnified in the wake of recent tragic events at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, where violence shook the community, leaving four dead, a scenario the students in South Lyon were mercifully spared.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard emphasized the gravity of the situation, saying, "If you make a threat, it's not a joke even if you think it is. It's terrifying to folks, it's unsettling, it's scary, and it's a crime, and you're going to be held accountable," according to CBS News Detroit. These threats are taken with utmost seriousness by both law enforcement and school districts as they reflect on the tangible fear such words now carry.
