As the Tampa Bay community joins the nation in marking the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a series of memorials and remembrance events will take place across the region. The tributes range from solemn ceremonies to illuminated displays, reflecting on a day that shook America to its core.
According to WFLA, the schedule includes a joint memorial held by the Tampa Police Department and Tampa Fire Rescue. The event will feature a traditional fire service bell ringing and an escort of a Twin Towers beam. Civic leaders, first responders, and veterans invite the public to join in these acts of tribute and remembrance.
Thousands across the region are paying respects at memorials. The tributes honor those lost in the attacks and highlight the ongoing health issues faced by first responders from that day, as reported by WTSP.
The Tribute in Light will feature two beams representing the Twin Towers, shining on the nights leading up to and including September 11. Palm Harbor will also hold a similar tribute, offering a visual reminder of resilience and honoring the changed skyline. This is noted by the Tampa Bay Times. On the anniversary, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will visit all three attack sites to honor nearly 3,000 victims. A tribute will light up the Manhattan skyline at sunset, symbolizing the nation's resilience and refusal to be overcome by terror.
