An explosion and subsequent fire at a substation in Maysville have left three individuals with injuries, according to Garvin County Emergency Management officials. This incident occurred Wednesday morning near a pipeline owned by Enerfin Resources. As reported by KOCO 5, the injured were airlifted to burn units, though their current medical status remains undisclosed.
Flying in response to the explosion by helicopter, emergency crews managed the blaze brought under control, with scorched and smoking grass captured by Sky 5's camera crew off Highway 19. The exact trigger for the violent release of energy at the substation is yet to be determined, leaving lingering questions about the safety measures in place. In images obtained from KFOR, smoke and charred terrain surrounding the facility were evident, a testament to the force of the explosion.
The Garvin County Sheriff's Office stated the explosion was connected to a gas plant, which raises concerns regarding the potential for future incidents of a similar nature. Emergency services' quick response to the emergency merits acknowledgement, as they immediately provided critical care and secured the scene. The sheriff's office confirmed to News 9 that the injured parties were transported to nearby hospitals.
