Green is the new gold standard in golfing, folks—at least, that's what the movers and shakers behind Tierra Verde Golf Club in Texas are proving. In a step that's as much about birdies as it is about birds, this course has swooped in to become the first in Texas, not to mention the whole globe's municipal courses, to snag the Audubon Signature Sanctuary certification, according to Arlington Parks and Recreation.
The club is actively promoting its eco-friendly message. Mark Claburn and the Tierra Verde team are hosting environmental science tours for schools and giving presentations at community events. Their efforts have been so successful that many in North Texas, including city planners, are seeking advice on turf management.
When it comes to environmental stewardship in the sport, Tierra Verde seems to be swinging for the fences—or rather, the trees. And it's not just about a plaque to hang in the clubhouse. This certification reflects a serious commitment to fostering wildlife habitats, conserving water, and generally ensuring that this particular green space is actually, well, green.
