A grandson of oil billionaire J. Paul Getty and his wife have quietly picked up one of Highland Park's grandest estates, paying an undisclosed sum for an 11,400-square-foot mansion that had been asking nearly $20 million just months earlier. William Paul Getty and Vanessa Getty acquired the property at 3515 Crescent Avenue through a trust, according to county documents reviewed by the Dallas Morning News, closing the deal in June 2026 after the home's listing was pulled from the market that May.

The Tuscan-style home last carried a public asking price of nearly $20 million, according to The Dallas Morning News, which first reported the sale. That figure works out to roughly $1,754 per square foot, per The Real Deal, which also reported the couple financed the purchase with an $11.5 million loan. Because Texas does not require public disclosure of sale prices, the final amount the Gettys paid remains unknown.

The home first hit the market in November 2025 asking $21 million, making it one of the Dallas-Fort Worth area's priciest listings at the time, before it was pulled off in May 2026. Douglas Newby of Douglas Newby & Associates represented the buyers, while Pogir Pogir of Briggs Freeman Sotheby's International Realty represented the sellers.

Grupo Bimbo Executives Were the Sellers

The sellers, José Roberto Quiroz Mata and Rosa María Mata Torrallardona, serve as board members and commissioners for Grupo Bimbo, the Mexico City-headquartered baking conglomerate whose brands include Takis and Little Bites, according to Grupo Bimbo. The company operates in more than 30 countries and runs its U.S. commercial operations out of Pennsylvania.

Built in 2009, the mansion was designed by prominent Dallas architect Richard Drummond Davis and built by Stephenson Custom Builders, per architectural listing records on Redfin. The estate sits on roughly half an acre and includes seven bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, a five-car garage, a media theater, a chef's kitchen connected to a wine cellar and bar, a pool, a fire pit, and a cascading water feature.

A Grandson of the World's Richest Man

William Paul Getty is a grandson of J. Paul Getty, who controlled Getty Oil and was considered the richest man in the world at the time of his death. The elder Getty also founded the J. Paul Getty Trust, which operates the Getty museum complex in Los Angeles; the wider Getty name is also tied to Getty Images, co-founded by Mark Getty. Vanessa Getty is a philanthropist and socialite.

Long before Texas, Billy Getty made his name in San Francisco real estate and business. In 1995, at age 24 — the same year, coincidentally, he had already co-founded the Cow Hollow wine shop PlumpJack Wine & Spirits with childhood friend Gavin Newsom, now California's governor, using seed capital from his father Gordon Getty, according to the San Antonio Express-News — he purchased two top-floor penthouses in San Francisco's Royal Towers and combined them into a 5,000-square-foot residence. That home set a city real estate record when it sold for $15 million in 1998, and it returned to the market in August 2026 asking $20 million, The Real Deal reported.

The Highland Park purchase follows a string of major real estate moves across the Getty family. Billy Getty's father, Gordon Getty, sold the historic Berkeley “Temple of Wings” estate for $5 million in 2024, and his sister, Aileen Getty, sold her Malibu estate for $14.1 million in 2017, according to The Real Deal's reporting.

Texas' Luxury Market Keeps Drawing Buyers

The purchase lands squarely in the middle of a booming Texas luxury market. The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro led the state in $1 million-plus home sales between November 2024 and October 2025, accounting for 38% of Texas's luxury transactions with 5,485 homes sold for a combined $9.7 billion, according to the Texas Realtors 2025 Sales of Million-Dollar Homes Report.

Statewide, homes priced above $1 million made up just 4.3% of all Texas residential sales during that period but generated 17.2% of the state's total residential sales dollar volume, the same report found. The average price per square foot for those million-dollar-plus Texas homes reached $423, more than double the $188 average across all residential sales.

For tax purposes, the Dallas Central Appraisal District valued the Highland Park home at $12 million — well below its market asking price, a gap common among the town's trophy properties. The Town of Highland Park set its 2025 ad valorem property tax rate at $0.199296 per $100 of assessed valuation, with an optional 20% homestead exemption available to owners. The home also falls within the Highland Park Independent School District, which adopted a $0.8128 per $100 tax rate for the 2026-2027 fiscal year on August 18, 2026 — a 2.19-cent drop from the prior year attributed to gains in overall district property values.

Part of a Broader Trend in Highland Park

The sale adds to a run of headline-grabbing Highland Park deals. Hoodline previously reported on a secretive trust's mansion buy that saw a private trust acquire a $24.9 million luxury property off-market in May 2026, and a Mediterranean estate on Gillon Avenue hit the market for $21.5 million that June. In December 2025, a gold-domed Highland Park palace at 4000 Euclid Avenue sold for $32.5 million, topping Texas home sales for the year.
