The Southern Marin Fire District's Engine 4 team worked rapidly to contain the fire, successfully extinguished by 1:09 AM. While one person and one dog were found dead, four other dogs were rescued from the blaze. "The firefighters' quick response led them to a victim who was in a back bedroom and although their efforts were valiant the victim who sustained significant burns was declared deceased at the scene," the Southern Marin Fire District representatives conveyed to Hoodline. No additional civilian injuries or firefighter casualties were announced.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office, which is working in conjunction with the Southern Marin Fire Department and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division, has commenced a thorough investigation to determine the cause and manner of the death.
