In a series of tragic events on Texas roads, authorities have confirmed the loss of lives in separate vehicle accidents, with young people being notably affected. According to FOX San Antonio, a rollover crash claimed the lives of Vincent Onofre and Mercadez Silva Rivera, both 19, after a white Cadillac Escalade lost control and rolled over near the corner of Applewhite Road and South Zarzamora in the early hours of last Saturday.
Officials responded to the scene around 2:20 a.m., where both victims were found to have been ejected from the SUV. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene, and two other people involved in the crash were transported to the hospital in stable condition. To further highlight the gravity of such incidents, another devastating crash occurred earlier when a van veered off the road and rolled on US-287 in Alvord, as reported by a PEOPLE news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The second accident, which involved a group traveling from Florida to New Mexico, resulted in five fatalities and multiple injuries. Among the deceased were 46-year-old Diony Antoine, 42-year-old JN Irard Vixamar, and 36-year-old Ledene Pierre-Louis, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Later that evening, 28-year-old Geneve Louis succumbed to her injuries at Medical City Denton, and 35-year-old Junior Louis passed away on the following Friday.
Patrick Dorcant, a relative of one of the victims, told KTVT, "He's family-oriented and hard-working. He came to the United States to get an education." Echoing the sentiment of loss and potential cut short, Tiffany Cuyler, acquainted with most of the van's passengers, remembered Geneve Louis as "a sweet soul" who had been in the United States for just over three months. "So I know these people yearn to get here for a better life," stated Cuyler. The accident also critically injured other passengers, with two men being airlifted to hospitals in Fort Worth, whereas another was hospitalized with a minor injury. DPS has reported that an investigation into the crash is ongoing, as detailed by PEOPLE.
