An unsettling discovery in the woods led to a tense day last Friday, as two men were arrested in connection with a hidden AR-style rifle and ammunition. The incident started with a welfare check initiated by the Bridgewater Police, and by the end of the day, a restaurant and senior residential community were on lockdown, just as local law enforcement cracked down on the threat.

Reports indicate that the call came in for a man believed to be armed and potentially in the area of the Quarry Restaurant and Linden Ponds, which prompted an immediate response. The presence of the man, along with suspicion of an armed individual, led the officers to advise both locations to initiate a shelter-in-place protocol. Assisting were Weymouth and Norwell Police, who managed to locate the Bridgewater man near the scene and subsequently transported him to the hospital. His accomplice from West Harwich was intercepted in the Quarry parking lot, where a rifle ammunition container was discovered in his truck, according to a Hingham Police Facebook post.

K9 units from the Hingham and Norwell Police departments scoured the nearby woods, locating additional ammo containers, magazines, and a "ghost gun" — an AR-style rifle without serial numbers. A Foxboro Police K9 unit searched further, but no more weapons were found. The two men, Scott M. McCabe of Bridgewater and Mark A. Cerundolo of West Harwich, both 32, were arrested and faced multiple charges, including firearm and ammunition offenses.

Following their arrest on Friday, McCabe was held on $15,000 cash bail at the Hingham Police Station, while Cerundolo was released on $5,000 cash bail. Both men were arraigned on Monday at Hingham District Court and have been ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for today. McCabe faces additional charges from the Bridgewater Police and will be arraigned in Brockton District Court at a later date, as noted by the Hingham Police.
