Two 18-year-old suspects were apprehended following a harrowing incident in the Grahamwood neighborhood where a man was critically injured after being shot and forced to flee to safety aboard a moving City of Memphis garbage truck. According to Action News 5, the victim, evading an armed assailant, was seen on surveillance footage on September 3 being chased and shot at, compelling him to make a desperate escape by jumping onto the side of the garbage truck.

The Memphis Police Department reported that the shooting unfolded on Isabelle Street, and escalated to such a degree that the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds before being found on the intersection of Macon and Salem streets, WREG stated. The attackers, identified as Cameron Kelley and Treyvion Short, are currently facing a list of severe charges, including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Furthermore, Kelley's bond is set at $150,000 and Short's at $85,000, yet Short has been released on bond.

In a grim recount of the events, city employees who witnessed the ordeal confirmed that the victim was persistently pursued and fired upon by an individual described as wearing a gray hoodie and dark-colored pants. The garbage truck, inadvertently involved in the incident, was struck several times by bullets, which also hit another bystander's car during the assault. These accounts have helped shed light on the extreme lengths the victim had to resort to in order to fend off an evidently lethal attack.

Vital to the case, Kelley later surrendered to authorities and, according to a FOX13 Memphis report, confessed to the shooting, providing details that he had fired at the victim and instigated a chase through the neighborhood. In a statement captured by court documents, Short admitted to his role in the crime as well, notably that he was driving the blue Nissan Altima and served as Kelley's getaway driver after the victim managed to elude death on the garbage truck.
