
A tragic incident unfolded in Kenosha where a Union Pacific employee was struck and killed by a southbound Metra train, as confirmed by the Kenosha Police Department. The accident occurred near 13th Avenue and 69th Street, around 12:17 p.m., WISN reports. The worker, 34-year-old Austin Scott Raysby of Burlington, was performing his duties when the incident took place. In a statement obtained by WISN, a Union Pacific spokeswoman expressed the company's sorrow, “We are saddened by the loss of a Union Pacific family member in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and extend our deepest sympathies to his family and the employees who worked alongside him.”
Following the collision, there were disruptions to the Metra train service, impacting passengers and schedules, the train itself was carrying close to 20 people at the time of the accident no passengers were injured in the event, however, the investigation required temporary service alterations as authorities worked to unravel the specifics behind the unfortunate event, CBS 58 News notes that inbound and outbound trains between Chicago OTC and Waukegan were operational, but stops at Kenosha, Winthrop Harbor, and Zion were suspended until further notice.
The demarcations of the scene extended to a section of the Union Pacific North Line, and Metra passengers were facilitated with transport back to the Kenosha Metra Station to depart the train in a secure manner. According to FOX 6 News, the Kenosha Police Department stated their ongoing investigation aims to determine the precise cause of the fatal accident involving the southbound Metra train and Raysby.
