Marching to the beat of a free event, the Dean Corey Marching Extravaganza will roll out at The University of Texas at Arlington's Maverick Stadium on Sept. 30. In a refreshing change, attendees can enjoy both the performances and parking at no cost. Starting at 7 p.m., the Maverick Stadium, located at 1307 W. Mitchell St., will be filled with the melodious sounds of the UTA's Maverick Marching Band and all six Arlington ISD traditional high school marching bands.
Following a hiatus, the event promises a stellar return with the bands showcasing their halftime and competition pieces for the upcoming marching season. Preparing for the October competitions is stressed, and the event, as Arlington ISD's assistant director of fine arts, Craig Needham said, per the City of Arlington, "It’s a preparatory event for our high school bands as they prepare for marching season," adding, "This is a snapshot of where they’re at in the competitive preparation."
Maverick Stadium, which seats 12,000, welcomes this annual event back into its embrace. The larger stadium not only facilitates a unidirectional show, which is paramount for band performances, but also means everyone, bands, patrons, and junior high band performers alike, can gather on one side of the stadium. This setup, as indicated by the sizable seat count, coupled with the fact that all attendees will be able to sit on the home side, assures a unifying experience.
