
A Van Buren County man has been taken into custody after an alleged attempt to murder his wife using kitchen knives and by strangulation. Officials responded to a domestic violence call at approximately 12:49 a.m. yesterday in the 36000 block of 24th Avenue in Bloomingdale Township, where the suspect's wife was found hiding in a shed after escaping the violent assault, as reported by FOX 17.
According to the WWJ Newsradio coverage, the investigation revealed the 49-year-old man had initially attacked his wife inside their home, slamming her against a wall and threatening her with two kitchen knives. After the woman fled the home, the assault continued outdoors where she was knocked to the ground and choked to unconsciousness. The sheriff's office stated that the suspect was ultimately apprehended at taser point for noncompliance and is now facing charges of Assault with Intent To Murder.
As per the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott indicated alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the altercation. The victim, whose condition has yet to be publicly disclosed, was transported to the hospital for necessary medical treatment.
