
Montgomery County Department of Police has apprehended a 65-year-old man linked to a string of home burglaries in Bethesda. Identified as Gregory Jerome Stamps, the resident of Manassas, Virginia was arrested and faces multiple charges stemming from the alleged crimes committed on Wednesday, September 11. According to the Montgomery County police department's press release, these incidents occurred in the 6000 block of Brookes Lane.
The chain of events leading to Stamps' arrest began when a homeowner, triggered by a motion sensor alert on his phone, spotted Stamps on his security feed attempting to break into the unoccupied house. After the homeowner's prompt 9-1-1 call and suspect description, arriving officers saw a broken window at the residence and observed Stamps, matching the given description, shortly apprehended him after walking away from the property.
Authorities found stolen goods and money on Stamps during the arrest. Following a further investigation, officers recovered additional items and cash in Stamps's vehicle connected to another burglary reported moments later in the same lane. A second homeowner confirmed that their property too had been burgled with items matching those in the suspect's possession.
As a consequence of the discoveries made post-arrest, Stamps is currently detained at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and is faced with various charges. These include first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, resisting arrest, and malicious destruction of property. Per the police department's advisement, he is being held without bond.
