Wake County is gearing up to host its sixth annual Community Day this Saturday, offering a chance for residents to gather and access a multitude of free essential services. According to a press release from the Wake County, the event promises to provide not only entertainment but also opportunities for locals to network, seek jobs, and get legal and health advice.
Planned for John Chavis Community Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event is rooted in former Wake County Commissioner James West's commitment to unity and community spirit. Chair Shinica Thomas underscored the importance of the occasion, stating, "Community Day represents a continuation of the legacy of late Wake County Commissioner James West.” She further added, “It's a day dedicated to bringing people together and fostering a sense of unity and fellowship, reflecting the values that Commissioner West championed throughout his service", according to the Wake County.
The free gathering will not just feature various local service providers but also activities suitable for the whole family. Starting back in 2016, the Community Day has consistently aimed to connect residents with critical career and social resources. The event's organization is a joint effort by Wake County’s Social and Economic Vitality division in collaboration with the City of Raleigh, among others. With emphasis on making services easily accessible, the day is set to remove barriers that frequently prevent individuals and families from getting the help they need, as mentioned by the Wake County.
Community Day offers free services, food, music, and family activities. It’s a great chance for residents to connect with potential employers. Supported by Wake County Cooperative Extension, Capital Area Workforce Development, and NC Works, the event aims to celebrate and support the community.
