Wake Forest Power (WFP) is rallying the community of Wake Forest to celebrate Public Power Week from October 6 through October 12. As part of a larger group of over 2,000 non-profit utilities, WFP is hosting a series of free events aiming to closely knit the town's public utility personnel with the community they serve. According to a press release from the Town of Wake Forest, customers can stand to win a month of free electricity by either correctly answering trivia questions about the town or by generously donating non-perishable items for the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry.

The celebration kicks off with a chance for WFP's residential customers to potentially score free electricity in October. They can enter the contest through October 9 by either taking part in a Public Power Week Trivia Contest, where all answers are available on the Town of Wake Forest website, or by donating at least four non-perishable items to Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry. Three lucky winners will be announced, two from the trivia contest and one from the food donors, at the Energy Expo on October 10 and also via the Wake Forest Power Facebook page—so, keep an eye out.

But free kilowatts aren't the only draw. On Tuesday, October 8, WFP is hosting a "Savings for Seniors Bingo" event. Seniors in the Wake Forest area are invited "to enjoy a special morning of bingo" that not only promises fun but also the opportunity to win prizes while learning about energy-saving tips. In a statement obtained by the Town of Wake Forest, Community Outreach Assistant Kiel Ortiz invites locals to participate and informs them that the prizes have been kindly donated by local merchants. The event details are accessible by reaching out to Ortiz via email or phone.

Public Power Week also happens to coincide with Customer Appreciation Week, and WFP knows just how to say thanks to its patrons. Town staff will be serving up piping-hot popcorn each day in the Town Hall lobby and distributing promotional items. It's an opportunity, according to Jenna Gonzales, Administrative Specialist for the Town of Wake Forest, "to share information and answer questions about WFP’s array of customer programs and services." And, to absolutely not miss on Thursday are the free hot dogs and soft drinks on offer at Town Hall, starting at 11 a.m., where residents can grab a bite while they're gobbled up.

An Energy Expo is to be held on Thursday, October 10, setting the stage for the community to learn how to make wise energy choices and live safer around electricity. There will be demonstrations, interactive displays, and representatives on-hand from an array of supportive organizations such as Wake Forest Power, ElectriCities, and more. And like any good celebration, WFP is mixing education with entertainment, offering electric safety demonstrations and a glimpse at the gear and vehicles linemen use in their day-to-day work. As part of their energy education efforts, linemen will showcase the power of electricity and demonstrate the potential hazards related to imprudent behavior around power lines.

As the town gears up for this enlightening week, a special nod is given to the local businesses contributing to the cause: Cadence Living at Wake Forest, Marquee Cinemas Wakefield Commons 12, Nothing Bundt Cakes - Wake Forest, and others. For the entire scoop on Public Power Week events, those interested should head right to the Town of Wake Forest website or contact Jenna Gonzales directly.
