This Saturday, the Town of Wake Forest is set to open its doors to the community for the Second Annual Wake Forest Mental Wellness Fair. Scheduled for Sept. 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the event will take place at the Renaissance Centre, located at 405 S. Brooks St. A collaborative effort spearheaded by Commissioner Nick Sliwinski, the fair aims to shine a light on mental health and the support that's accessible to those grappling with mental illness.
As reported by WakeForestNC.gov, attendees can look forward to an array of activities geared toward various age groups, including children and teens. Adults and seniors will also find tailored information that could aid them or someone they cherish who's quietly carrying the weight of untreated or poorly managed mental afflictions. Underscoring the inclusivity of the event, an Intergenerational Expressive Arts breakout session has been planned, alongside performances and interactive workshops that creatively confront topics like grief and wellness.
The fair boasts a keynote presentation that will delve into the “8 Dimensions of Wellness,” promising a comprehensive look at the multifaceted approach to mental health. Adding to the interactive nature of the day, attendees will have the chance to participate in a dance presentation themed around dealing with grief and join in on drumming sessions that welcome all levels of experience and ages.
To further assist those attending, a variety of vendor advocates from local organizations, agencies, and nonprofits will be available to share vital resources and information. These advocates are prepared to cover critical topics, ranging from depression and suicide to services for veterans and ways to handle holiday grief. The Town of Wake Forest, coupled with the Wake Forest Fire Department, has also pledged to provide free food, available in the Renaissance Centre parking lot for those who arrive while supplies last.
The Mental Wellness Fair is free of charge and encourages both individuals seeking support and those looking to assist loved ones in need. Although walk-ins are welcome, prospective attendees can preregister for the event by filling out the online signup form offered through the town's news release.
