Washington County drivers should brace for some disruptions next week. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced a flurry of road maintenance and improvements starting September 30. Areas across the county will see various activities, including bridge replacements, brushing and tree trimming, and more, potentially impacting daily commutes.
Among the scheduled work, Susan Howard, Washington County Maintenance Manager, confirmed that Route 3009 (Sunset Beach Road) in Buffalo Township will be closed for bridge replacement. A detour will be in place, directing traffic via Route 40 (Main Street), Route 221 (S Bridge Road), and Route 3009 (Cracraft Road), which are primed to receive additional vehicular load during this period.
Tree trimming operations will trim the edges of roadways in Morris Township on Route 221 (Dunn Station Road), in North Bethlehem Township on Route 2013 (Little Daniels Run Road), and in both North and West Bethlehem townships on Route 2015 (Spring Valley Road). Additionally, as outlined in PennDOT's statement, road-shoulder mowing is slated to tidy up the vicinity of I-70 Ramp 8014 (Jefferson Avenue) and several other locations.
Major road maintenance will also see Interstate 70 and other routes undergoing patching to mend the travel surface. Simultaneously, pipe replacement on Route 2007 (Hackney Station Road) in Amwell Township may add to the local diversions. Seal coating is penciled in for a handful of routes to protect and prolong the lifespan of the roads. Moreover, slide repair is on the docket for Route 2015 (Spring Valley Road) and a few others, essential to ensure motorists' safety.
According to PennDOT, crews will handle construction work, pick up litter, replace signs, and address various maintenance tasks on state routes. They have set up a toll-free number, 1-800-FIX-ROAD, for the public to report road issues. Travelers can check real-time traffic conditions and camera feeds on the 511PA website and app to avoid construction zones.
