Aaron Jackson, a 31-year-old man from Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of Damohn Gill in June 2021. As reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Jackson's sentence was handed down today and includes three additional years for carrying a dangerous weapon, with five years of supervised release to follow.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 24, 2021, when Gill, aged 27, and his pregnant girlfriend arrived at the Orchard Park Apartments. Jackson arrived shortly after and, after a brief interaction with Gill, aggressively attacked him with a knife. According to the evidence presented by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jackson was determined to have stabbed Gill nine times in various areas including the back, face, arm, and abdomen. In what can be described as a brazen act of post-crime hubris, mere days after the act, Jackson took to social media platform Instagram to brag about the killing.
During the trial, which concluded with a guilty verdict on May 22, 2024, Jackson faced charges of first-degree murder while armed and carrying a dangerous weapon. "Superior Court Judge Michael O’Keefe sentenced Jackson to 40 years in prison for first-degree murder while armed, three years in prison for carrying a dangerous weapon, and five years of supervised release," as mentioned in an official statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The case, investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, was put to rest through the collective efforts of law enforcement and legal professionals. U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the MPD were quick to commend the teamwork that led to the resolution of the case. Assistant United States Attorneys Wes Faulkner and Marybeth Manfreda were recognized for prosecuting the case, alongside a team of specialists and coordinators who had collectively toiled to ensure justice was duly served.
