An Oakland County woman is facing serious charges after authorities allege she restrained her sister, who has developmental disabilities, and her young daughter with duct tape before leaving them unattended. Brittany Indonesia Ivory, 31, of Waterford is accused of the abusive acts, ClickOnDetroit reports.
Police responded to a distressing scene at Ivory's home last Saturday after receiving a call around 3:30 p.m., where they discovered Ivory's 32-year-old sister bound with duct tape in the backyard and her 4-year-old daughter strapped in a stroller inside a bedroom, as WZZM 13 detailed. Both victims were taken to a hospital for medical treatment, and Ivory was arrested and taken to the Oakland County Jail.
The charges laid against Ivory include second-degree child abuse, third-degree vulnerable adult abuse, and two counts of unlawful imprisonment. "Caretakers are entrusted to support and protect the safety of individuals in their care," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald highlighted, "To use your position of trust to abuse another individual, in this case, a child and a vulnerable adult, is abhorrent," MLive shared this statement from the prosecutor's office.
Ivory was arraigned on Tuesday, during which her bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety, with no 10%, and her probable cause conference is scheduled for Oct. 1, at 2:30 p.m., reports note. The Oakland County Prosecutor has emphasized the responsibility of caretakers and vowed to seek justice for victims, stressing that, "Everyone deserves dignity, respect and to feel secure," according to MLive.
