Bay Area drivers, gear up for a weekend of delays and detours. If you're planning on cruising along I-376 Parkway East, you'll need to carve out some extra commute time or map out an alternate route. According to PennDOT District 11, lane restrictions are set to take place starting Friday night and running through Monday morning in several municipalities including Churchill Borough, Wilkins Township, Penn Hills, and Monroeville due to ongoing construction work.
From 9 p.m. Friday until the break of dawn on Monday at 5 a.m., traffic will be confined to a single lane in both directions along I-376 – this stretch spans from the Penn Hills/Route 791 North interchange to the bridge over Old William Penn Highway, crews are tasked with a medley of improvements like concrete bridge approach slab reconstruction and latex placement also other concrete replacement work that's part of a larger endeavor, the $70.1 million I-376 Parkway East Betterment Project.
This ambitious Betterment Project aims to enhance a 4.5-mile segment between the Churchill/Route 130 and Monroeville/Route 48 exits with a completion date set for the autumn of 2026. Swank Construction Company, LLC, the hands behind the operation, are not only replacing the superstructure over Old William Penn Highway but rehabilitating and preserving several other bridges. Motorists should brace for the long haul, as the project will impose long-term single-lane restrictions and even full weekend closures, plus a planned long-term crossover in the year ahead, 2025.
