Travelers planning on utilizing the northbound lanes of Interstate 79 in Allegheny County this weekend should anticipate delays and detours due to concrete patching works. PennDOT District 11 has issued a reminder that a single-lane restriction will be in effect from Friday night, September 20th through to the early hours of Monday, September 23rd. This restriction will apply to the stretch between the I-376 Airport/Pittsburgh (Exit 59 A/B) and Route 60 Crafton/Moon Run (Exit 60) interchanges, according to PennDOT's announcement.

The lane restriction, which is scheduled to commence at 7 p.m. on September 20th, will be accompanied by around-the-clock closures of two ramps at the Route 60 (Exit 60) interchange. These closures aim to facilitate concrete patching, with both the northbound I-79 ramp to Route 60 and southbound Route 60 to southbound I-79 ramps being affected. Motorists will need to follow posted detours while ramp traffic gets redirected throughout the weekend.

Specific detour instructions have been provided for both the northbound I-79 ramp to Route 60 and the southbound Route 60 to southbound I-79. For the northbound I-79 ramp to Route 60, the detour involves continuing past the closed ramp, taking Exit 64, and using Route 51 to rejoin I-79 southbound. Similarly, for detouring from southbound Route 60 to southbound I-79, drivers will need to divert to northbound I-79 before following Route 51 back to southbound I-79.

This weekend's patching efforts are a part of the larger $14.97 million highway restoration project that kicked off in April 2024 and is slated to conclude in late spring of 2025. Overseeing the project is the prime contractor Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. The scope of this extensive project includes not only the concrete pavement patching but also upgrades to highway lighting, signage, and drainage works, along with bridge preservation tasks on six structures. Moreover, motorists can expect milling and paving operations on Route 60 as well as various miscellaneous construction activities.
