West Philadelphia Community in Shock as 14-Year-Old Girl Killed in Hit-and-Run, Police Seek Suspect's Dark Sedan

A 14-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run incident last night in West Philadelphia, with the driver still at large. According to NBC Philadelphia, the girl was crossing Haverford Avenue at 66th Street around 9:38 p.m. when a dark-colored sedan, believed to be a Mercedes-Benz, hit her and failed to stop. Philadelphia Police Inspector Michael Gormley described the horrific scene, stating, "The sedan knocked the girl away from her mother," and sadly, she did not survive her injuries.

Police expressed the accident scene spanned an entire city block with the girl found a significant distance from where she was struck capturing the brutality of the impact FOX 29 reported that, according to the mother's statement to investigators, the vehicle narrowly missed her but hit the teen, police believe the car swerved to avoid the pair before striking the teenager. The mother recounted to the authorities that she felt the car scrape her knuckles during the near-miss, and turned around to find her daughter had been hit, found nearly a block away.

The search for the hit-and-run driver continues with authorities appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. The vehicle is described as dark in color, possibly a gray charcoal Mercedes sedan, which they expect to have heavy front-end damage from the incident. 6abc reported police are scouring the area for video surveillance that might have captured the event or the driver.

Medics pronounced the girl dead at the scene of the crime. Inspector Gormley affirmed the ongoing efforts to locate the suspect and asked the community for assistance anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to contact the police at 215-686-TIPS to aid in the apprehension of the suspect.
