Chaos unfolded on the streets of Healdsburg yesterday when a vehicle collided with a motorcycle at the intersection of Healdsburg Ave. and Parkland Farms Blvd. The Healdsburg Police Department reported receiving multiple emergency calls around 12:19 PM concerning the incident. Responding quickly, officers arrived on the scene to find both drivers injured. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries, and the vehicle's driver with moderate injuries.
The motorcyclist was swiftly transported to Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for the serious injuries sustained, while the driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene. As officers delved into the cause of the collision, suspicion arose that alcohol might have played a role. Acting on this suspicion, the police secured a search warrant for a blood draw from the motorcyclist while at the hospital.
Results indicated that the motorcyclist, 50-year-old Glenn Merrifield of Windsor, was under the influence, leading to his arrest for Felony DUI causing injury and possession of a controlled substance. Despite the severity of his injuries, Merrifield was released on a citation, pending a future court appearance to face the charges laid against him.
