Ready for a little aquatic enchantment? Grab your paddle and your pointiest of hats because Lake Wheeler Park is hosting its picture-perfect "Witches on the Water" event this October. Those with a flair for the mystical can hit the water in full witchy regalia on Oct. 19, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. For the witches who prefer to stay ashore until the proper time, the lake's surface will be peppered with cloaks and hats by 1:30 p.m., just in time for a grand photo op, as reported by the City of Raleigh website.
While sisterhood among witches—newcomers and experienced alike—is encouraged, remember that kids aged 10-16 will need a chaperone; no solo participants allowed. If you have your own kayak, it costs just $5 to join the float. For those without a kayak, you can reserve one for $15, but make sure to book it at least a day in advance, according to the City of Raleigh.
Remember, this isn't just a fun gathering; safety is important on the water. Personal Flotation Devices are required, whether you bring your own kayak or rent one. While you might enjoy the lake's beauty, be sure to leave the water by 6:30 p.m. The park gates close an hour later at 7 p.m., so plan your activities and departures accordingly, as mentioned by the City of Raleigh. Be sure to secure all your costumes and gear tightly. Lake Wheeler doesn’t need any accidental pollution, so make sure your magical accessories are fastened properly. We don’t want your items ending up as trash in the lake. For more information, park rules, and registration details, check the official City of Raleigh event listing.
