As fall approaches and the leaves start to change, the Wren Memorial Library has announced a schedule of October events for the Chatham County community. Known for cultural engagement, the library invites everyone to join in for storytelling, gardening knowledge, and literary discussions—free of charge.
The month's events kick off on October 4 with the "History Social," inviting history enthusiasts to reminisce about Siler City's Independence Day festivities. Taking place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the first Friday of every month, anyone aged 18 and over can come by to share stories, contribute to the archives, and possibly uncover a hidden snapshot worth a thousand historical words. As noted in the Chatham County announcement, sharing is the name of the game.
Want to get your thumbs green while staying grounded? The "Cool Season Gardening" event is on October 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will share gardening tips. Master Gardeners from the N.C. Cooperative Extension – Chatham County Center aren’t letting the cooler temperatures stop them. Whether you have knee-highs or creaky knees, they’ll show you which seeds can grow in the cold, so your winter has plenty of sprouts and blooms.
Readers eager to turn the page on solitude can join the Morning Book Club on October 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Whether you’re a book lover or just starting to explore, the library invites you to discuss Miranda Cowley Heller's "The Paper Palace." New members are encouraged to check out copies available at the circulation desk for free, without needing to look at a screen, according to the Chatham County.
