A 14-year-old student at Forest Hills Northern High School was arrested yesterday after allegedly making a false bomb threat. The Kent County Sheriff's Office indicated the youth is now in custody at the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center, facing the possibility of charges for filing a false terror report. Despite the alarming nature of the threat, authorities found it lacked credibility, as reported by FOX 17.
MLive adds further context, affirming that the FBI was notified to assess whether the threat was part of "a larger nationwide swatting initiative from overseas." Superintendent Ben Kirby, in a statement, ensured families that neither students nor the school were in immediate danger, highlighting law enforcement's prompt dismissal of any credible threat to the school.
The rapid arrest of the suspect was the result of quick action by KCSO's School Resource Officers and Detectives. After a thorough investigation and interviewing the young suspect himself, who did not pose an imminent threat to the school, they placed him in detention. In the unfolding of these events, deputies maintained that the school's security and the students' wellbeing were their priority, as noted in a release stating, "KSCO takes threats made against schools seriously and continues our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our schools," according to MLive.
