In what was surely an unsettling early morning intrusion, a 72-year-old woman in Twentynine Palms awoke to a trespasser who had made his way into her bed. The incident, happening on October 22, 2024, involved 32-year-old transient Bobby Ray Carrllo Jr., who entered through an unlocked garage door. The Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station responded after the victim found Carrillo lying next to her and refusing to leave, insisting he was there to sleep.
Family members were quickly contacted to deal with the unwelcome guest. They arrived to confront Carrllo, who then fled the premises only to attempt to enter another nearby home. This time, he was met by the homeowner and decided to quickly exit the scene. Deputies, utilizing security footage and a witness's photograph, were able to positively identify Carrllo as the suspect. An arrest warrant was swiftly issued on charges of burglary.
Local law enforcement then thoroughly canvassed the area, ultimately locating Carrillo near the intersection of Mariposa Avenue and Twentynine Palms Highway. According to a statement released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, he was arrested and taken into custody without further incident. The Sheriff's Department has urged anyone with more information about the occurrence to make contact with Detective Tyler A. Bengard at the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station.
