
The Adams County Sheriff's Office is grappling with the tragic loss of Deputy Joshua Tapia, who was involved in a fatal pedestrian/vehicle collision while off-duty. The 25-year veteran of the force was struck on Tuesday evening just shy of 9:30 p.m. near Highway 52 and South Purman Avenue in Fort Lupton, as reported by Denver7.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office informed that the driver who hit Tapia did stop to render aid and called 911. Despite rapid transportation to the hospital by medical personnel, Tapia was subsequently pronounced dead. According to 9News, the sheriff's office described Tapia as a "cherished husband, father, friend," and recognized his more than a quarter-century of committed service as a deputy.
Beyond his service to law enforcement, Tapia was known for his dedication to his community in other roles. He had served as a firefighter in Fort Lupton for 20 years, retiring just over a year ago, a commitment remembered by the Fort Lupton Fire Department in a social media post mourning his passing, "We pray for the comfort of his family during this difficult time and our hearts hurt from this loss." He was revered for his dual roles in safeguarding community safety, as said by the fire department, as per CBS News, "Service to his community was his calling and he never wavered in his commitment to his duties or his family."
Additionally, Tapia was a part of Rampart Search and Rescue, broadening his impact on the lives he served. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, and there is yet no information regarding potential charges against the driver involved in the incident. Tapia's multifaceted roles within his community underscore the depth of the loss felt by numerous hearts and lives touched through his vigilant service and genuine commitment.
