An incident at an Apple Valley smoke shop took a turn when deputies called to the scene and found that the woman who reported an assault was the perpetrator. San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department shared the details of the October 5 altercation, which led to the arrest of 31-year-old Ashley Marie Shields. According to the SBSD - Apple Valley Police Department, Shields initially presented herself as the victim when deputies arrived at the location on State Highway 18.
Deputies G. Guzman and C. Wingard investigated the reported assault and gathered evidence which eventually pointed to Shields as the assailant, not the victim. There were minor injuries sustained by both Shields and the 32-year-old male victim, as detailed by the Apple Valley Police Department. Following a medical evaluation for Shields, she was taken into custody and later booked into High Desert Detention Center. In contrast, the actual victim declined medical attention.
Felony charges for assault with a deadly weapon were filed against Shields by the Victorville District Attorney's office on October 7. The specific charge is PC 245(a)(1), which denotes assault with a deadly weapon. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Deputy Guzman at the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station or to make an anonymous tip through the We-Tip Hotline.
