Following a meticulous investigation by the Arlington Police Department (APD), the suspect in a February murder has been booked on one count of murder. The suspect, Rondre Mayberry, 25, is currently incarcerated at a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility for a separate conviction, as reported by the City of Arlington, Texas.
On the night of February 13, Ricardo Oliveros, age 51, was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound on Remynse Drive. He was promptly transported to a local hospital after his arrival. He succumbed to his injuries. In the same complex, officers, responding to a call about a man flaunting a gun during an altercation in June, arrested Mayberry - currently serving a sentence for the unrelated offense.
A link between the gun possessed by Mayberry and the February shooting was established through a forensic analysis of ballistics evidence utilizing the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network. As per the APD, the shell casing from the scene was a match to the handgun recovered in June. Faced with these findings, Mayberry opted for silence, invoking his right to legal counsel when approached by detectives.
Not content with ballistics, APD delved into the digital footprints left behind, pursuing Mayberry's cell phone records after obtaining a search warrant. The digital breadcrumbs revealed his phone pinging at the crime scene just before the gunshot was heard in the surveillance and trailing northwards congruently with the suspect caught on camera fleeing the scene.
APD Chief Al Jones lauded his team's combined efforts in unraveling the case.
