Arlington has taken a step towards water conservation by offering residents the opportunity to swap out their older, less water-efficient showerheads for new, cost-saving models. This initiative is a collaboration between Arlington Water Utilities and Tarrant Regional Water District, aimed at reducing water consumption and cutting down on utility bills for local families.
Starting from October 14 till the end of the month, Arlingtonians can participate in this exchange program by bringing their old showerheads to any of the department's customer service locations. A maximum of two showerheads per household can be traded for a new WaterSense labeled model. It's first come, first serve.
The environmental and economic impact of making the switch to a water-efficient showerhead is significant. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, using a WaterSense-labeled showerhead can help the average family conserve over 2,700 gallons of water annually. This not only translates to savings on the water bill but also reduces the household's electrical consumption—the equivalent of powering a home for nearly two weeks, based on data from the City of Arlington.
