Travelers at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport experienced a momentary ripple of concern Thursday night when a suspicious item was discovered in an area typically unseen by the public eye. The Austin Police Department responded to the scene in the Belly Freight Area of the airport, which is the underbelly where cargo is loaded onto aircraft, KVUE reports.
Despite the potential threat, terminal operations and flight services continued uninterrupted – a stark contrast to the usual chaos one might expect in such scenarios. According to airport authorities, the Belly Freight Area was closed off to the public during the investigation.
The situation was handled swiftly with an all-clear given by police shortly after 8:30 p.m. The thoroughness of the investigation ensured that no harm came to the passengers, staff, or structure of the airport. FOX 7 Austin added that the item was inspected shortly after 8 p.m. and within a brief timespan, the area was deemed safe and cleared of any danger, the station confirms.
