Austin is gearing up for a sweltering weekend, with temperatures expected to soar well above the average for this time of year. As reported by the National Weather Service, the city will see sunny skies with the mercury climbing to the mid-90s. Calm winds from the south at around 5 mph will offer little reprieve from the heat.
Today will be another sunny and unseasonably warm day. Mostly sunny days, clear nights, and above average daytime temperatures will continue for south-central Texas through the weekend and into early next week. A weak cold front may move into the area on Tuesday. pic.twitter.com/6WKGc6ZlId

Concerns over air quality are on the rise, with "elevated ground-level ozone" set to potentially cause problems throughout the day, KXAN noted. In addition to the heat, Austinites should brace for increased dust and pollen levels, especially those planning to attend the ACL Festival this weekend.
Despite the current heat wave, cooler temperatures are on the horizon with the arrival of a cold front next Tuesday. "Sunny, with a high near 91. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the morning," and "Clear, with a low around 60" on Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
