While many might be gearing up for a night of Halloween shenanigans, the city of Austin is already looking ahead to the festive season.
Austin Energy crews, began working on Tuesday to adorn Zilker Park's moon tower with thousands of lights, crafting the city's iconic 155-foot Zilker Holiday Tree. FOX 7 Austin reports that the annual tradition, which culminates in a vibrant lighting ceremony, is scheduled for November 27th.
A staple of Austin's holiday festivities, the Zilker Holiday Tree stands as a towering beacon of community cheer. Housing the only moonlight towers in the world, Austin Energy ensures that 13 of the original 31 still stand, with another four having been restored.
In tandem, the Trail of Lights, another holiday highlight, will ignite Zilker Park with its illuminating presence. Located just across from where the moon tower rises, the Trail of Lights is set to offer half of its 14 nights free to the public, whereas children under 12 will revel in complimentary admission nightly, according to KVUE.
Decking out the tree, the city will utilize 39 strings loaded with LED bulbs, each counting 81 red, yellow, green, and blue bulbs. The calculated arrangement of these bulbs, especially the yellow ones, creates the tree's signature swirl pattern that hypnotizes and delights spectators. The tree is completed by a grand double star perched on top, spanning a notable 10 feet from point to point.
