In a swift resolution to a harrowing string of crimes, Dublas Vasquez, a 25-year-old man, has been sentenced to serve a substantial 60-year prison term for charges connected to incidents of sexual abuse, as confirmed by the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. On Sept. 26, following a trial that began just a day prior, a jury found Vasquez guilty of aggravated kidnapping - sexual abuse and two counts of sexual assault, as KXAN reports.
His conviction culminated in a combined sentence of 60 years for the aggravated kidnapping charge and an additional 20 years for each sexual assault charge to run concurrently, meaning his time in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will not extend beyond the longest sentence handed down. Vasquez who has been held in Travis County jail since September 2023, remains unclear whether his time served will count towards his prison sentence, according to Travis County jail records.
Dublas Vasquez's legal battles began with his arrest on Sept. 25, 2023, following an incident dating back to March 27, 2023. Subsequently indicted on each count in December 2023, the conviction marks a culmination of efforts by law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office, "Our office is grateful to our dedicated staff and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable and seek justice for the victims," said Travis County District Attorney José Garza, as quoted by KVUE.
