A horrific development has arisen in a case of infant fatality originally deemed a medical emergency in March, as 31-year-old Brittney Alisha Bailey now faces a capital murder charge in connection with her 3-month-old daughter's death. According to an affidavit, Bailey was initially charged with injury to a child after her daughter’s twin sister was observed with injuries that were characterized as "non-accidental," as per a report by KXAN.
The Austin Police Department responded to a distress call at The Revl Apartments on North Lamar Boulevard back on March 10, where the infant was found unresponsive—later passing away on March 15, an incident investigated as Austin's 12th homicide of the year documented by KVUE. It was only after a Travis County medical examiner ruled the child's death a homicide on Oct. 4 that the charges against Bailey escalated, the father Erick Resendiz, 26, faces a charge of injury to a child after failing to intervene on behalf of the 3-month-old and her twin, who also suffered injuries allegedly at the hands of their mother.
Bailey, who was arrested in May, remains detained at the Travis County correctional complex with her bond set at $600,000, while Resendiz was booked more recently on Friday, Oct. 25 with a bond of $10,000. Bailey’s attorney has yet to release a statement regarding the accusations.
As the investigation persists, officials urge anyone with additional details concerning this case to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
