The Austin Police Department is on the lookout for three individuals allegedly involved in a violent robbery against an elderly woman, which took place in a Walmart parking lot at 13201 North FM 620. The incident, which emerged into the fore on Wednesday, October 2, just as the clock approached the noon zenith, has since cast a shadow over the community. In a crime that underscores the vulnerability of our seniors, the victim, whose day began with the simplicity of a shopping sojourn, found herself besieged by a threat no one should have to endure.
Described as a harrowing confrontation, the elderly lady had just returned to her car when the suspects, exploiting the perceived weakness of age, demanded her purse. As reported by the Austin Police Department, her resistance was met with threats of death and a knife brandished by one of the assailants. Before fleeing with her belongings, the suspects inflicted multiple injuries to her head and back.
Suspect #1 is described by the police as a Black male, last seen adorning a blue shirt and black pants. He was reportedly the one armed with the knife that fateful day. Suspect #2, a White male, wore a beige shirt with an unclear design and khaki shorts. The third suspect is said to be a light-skinned male with a foreign accent, who, like shadows that darken doorways, has left an imprint of fear in the community. Information is the coin of the realm in the pursuit of justice, and the APD is urging anyone with knowledge to come forward.
The APD Robbery Unit is asking for the public's help to capture these suspects. To encourage witnesses and those with tips to step out of the hush, the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program offers a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Providing this information can be done anonymously; a grace for those who fear retribution in telling their truth. Tips can be submitted through the CRIME STOPPERS website at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477, with the hope that the suspects, who left the scene in an unknown direction, can be brought to book.
