A multi-agency effort culminated in the successful rescue of a 9-year-old autistic child this morning in Boulder County. The child reportedly went missing after last being seen at the Mountain Shadows Montessori School. According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the incident began at around 8:57 AM when the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report of the missing child.
The search involved deputies, the Boulder Emergency Squad deploying drones, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group with ground searchers. Front Range Rescue Dogs contributed with search dogs. The coordinated rescue effort brought together multiple agencies and showcased a rapid response. As per the press release issued by the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the deputy and a K-9 bloodhound named “Watson” were integral to the search.
Finding the child undamaged at 10:11 AM was a relief to everyone involved. The missing child was located west of the school, on the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks property by Sheriff’s Deputy Scrudder along with OSMP Ranger Kelly McBride. The quick resolution to the potentially dire situation was thanks to the efforts of the ten Boulder County Sheriff's Office personnel who were part of the search operation.
The incident, which was assigned case number 24-05433 by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, ended with the child being returned safely. "We would like to extend our thanks to all the involved agencies and individuals for their coordinated and swift efforts in ensuring the safe return of the child," as per Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. This collaboration across agencies underscores a community's capacity to come together in times of urgent need.
