
Las Vegas residents near the intersection of Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards faced a startling event this past Saturday evening as, a backyard fire rapidly escalated, leading to an extensive emergency response. According to a report from News3LV, the fire prompted a two-alarm call involving a combined effort from multiple local fire departments.
The blaze was reported at 6:08 p.m. and within five minutes, fire crews were battling the flames. The response, initially a first alarm was quickly ramped up to a second due to the condition of the rapidly spreading fire. Clark County Fire Department took the lead, with support from North Las Vegas and City of Las Vegas units, as detailed in both News3LV and 8NewsNow coverage.
The collective force included 71 personnel, featuring 10 engines, four trucks, four rescues, three battalion chiefs, one air resource, one EMS supervisor, and two fire investigators, as per 8NewsNow. Firefighters initially tackled the fire from the perimeter in a defensive strategy but soon took the fight inside for an overhaul operation and search of the home. This intense task, expected to run for several hours, is part of the standard procedure for ensuring that flames are thoroughly extinguished and areas are safe.
Utility services were also part of the emergency scene, with Southwest Gas and NV Energy present to secure the utilities, while the American Red Cross took to rendering aid to the affected, as reported by News3LV. One adult and several pets were left without a home due to the fire, a sobering reminder of the sudden turns life can take. No injuries were reported amongst the residents or the emergency crews, and, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
