Baltimore County is gearing up to revamp the Rocky Point Golf Course Clubhouse, a well-trodden facility that's beckoned golf lovers since 1971. According to an official announcement by the County, the project is set to breathe new life into the clubhouse with a swanky overhaul that boasts modern amenities and expanded event spaces and aims to fortify connections within the community.
County Executive Johnny Olszewski, the Baltimore County Revenue Authority, and other dignitaries hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to kick-start the much-anticipated expansion and renovation. "We are committed to delivering world-class opportunities for our residents to play, compete, and explore Baltimore County’s natural beauty – especially along our scenic and historic eastern waterfronts," Olszewski stated via Baltimore County News, underscoring the initiative's aim to enrich regional recreational offerings.
The face-lift includes adding a commercial kitchen, a new event space capable of seating around 180 guests, a 24-30 seat mixed grille area, refreshed restrooms, a revamped pro shop, and storage space adequate for roughly 75 golf carts. Investment in the clubhouse revamp stands at $8.25 million, a venture supported jointly by Baltimore County and the Baltimore County Revenue Authority.
This renovation marks a significant transformation for the original clubhouse. By providing an indoor, conditioned space paired with catering services, the facility is set to become a go-to venue for golfing events and local nonprofits and community groups. In a statement obtained by the Baltimore County News, Baltimore County Revenue Authority Board Chair Steven Thomas expressed gratitude: "Everyone will now be able to enjoy Rocky Point and its spectacular location. It is truly a great day for the east side of Baltimore County and for Rocky Point."
The Rocky Point Golf Course forms part of the expansive 390-acre Rocky Point Park, managed by the County’s Department of Recreation and Parks. With approximately 42,000 rounds of golf played annually, the course is a hotspot for golfers and community groups that organize outings to generate funds for their respective causes. The venue update is the last of its kind among the four golf courses, sealing Rocky Point's reputation as a township treasure.
To ensure the golf season runs without a hitch, work on the clubhouse is expected to kick off soon after the groundbreaking ceremony and wrap up within 10 months. Previous upgrades to the clubhouse haven’t been undertaken since its doors opened more than five decades ago.
