Baltimore County just got a fresh hub for kickflips and grinds with the debut of Hazelwood Skate Park, unveiled in a collective huddle of officials and skate fans. According to a Baltimore County, County Executive Johnny Olszewski presided over the opening, lauding the bowl as "a vibrant new resource for our communities." Indeed, the park is a skateboarding jewel—the county's first new skate bowl in a half-century.
This fresh concrete paradise marks a significant triumph for local skateboarders, with Hogan's administration sprinkling in $1.3 million from Maryland’s Local Parks and Playgrounds Infrastructure Program, among other financial boosts. Chiming in with his bit, Baltimore County Councilman Mike Ertel pitched the skate park's perks, talking up its potential to be a beacon for youth engagement.
Forming a skate sibling to the county's first bowl in Lansdowne, Hazelwood is teeming with potential for community building and skill honing. Bill Felter and the Baltimore County Skateboard Council had a voice in the park's design, paving the way—quite literally—for this skateboarding sanctuary.
The Hazelwood project is part of Baltimore County's plan to enhance recreational areas. Residents can also look forward to the new Rosedale RAC, have recently enjoyed the upgraded Hamiltowne Park, and the new Middle River Recreation Activity Center. Hazelwood Park is conveniently located along the Northeast Regional Trail, connecting to venues like the Elmwood Elementary School Recreation Center.
