Early Monday morning, a fire broke out at a house under construction in the Winnetka neighborhood of Los Angeles, extensively damaging the construction site and two neighboring homes. According to CBS News Los Angeles, the incident happened after 1:30 a.m. in the 7900 block of N. Laramie Avenue and drew a swift response from Los Angeles Fire Department crews.
The LAFD arrived to find, the home engulfed in flames, along with the immediate spread to adjacent buildings. "Firefighters fought fire in all three buildings and achieved a knockdown in 46 mins (2:23AM) with no injuries reported," was detailed in a statement by the fire department. The same event echoed in a notification from the LAFD, saying that the two-story, single-family dwelling was well-involved in the fire.
Damages to the homes were significant, as captured in a dramatic video shared with KTLA, showing one of the buildings collapsing in flames. One of the adjacent residences sustained damage to its attic and the other on its second floor. The damage caused by fire to one of the homes resulted in a red-tag designation, indicating it was unsafe to inhabit, effectively displacing a family. A resident lamented the loss of important documents to KTLA, and the struggle to find alternative housing loomed for those affected.
No injuries were reported from the incident, and arson investigators have been assigned to determine the cause of the fire. As for the families impacted, the immediate future holds the burden of reconstructing their lives from the literal ashes of their dwellings. The investigation into the fire's origin, according to the LAFD, is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this point.
