This weekend, Jacksonville skies will be buzzing with precision and pageantry as the famed Blue Angels soar into town for the NAS Jax Air Show, marking one of their final performances of the 2024 season. As reported by PNJ, the Air Show is a historic fixture, often dubbed the cradle of the Blue Angels, and anticipation is building for both the practice show yesterday and main events over the weekend.
For those planning to attend, know this; admission and parking are gloriously free of charge, but logistics may be a pinch — or more. Last time the NAS Jax threw open its gates for this aeronautical extravaganza, it seemed everyone and their second cousin twice removed rallied to the call, quite literally driving the event to max capacity and beyond, causing some would-be attendees to be turned away due to the throng. As such, getting an early start is strongly advised; gates open at 9 a.m. and if history is any indicator, snagging a spot is going to take some doing, First Coast News highlights head of security Doug Chilson's tip to plant oneself on base at least two hours early to beat the bustle and blockage on adjacent highways.
Amid the lively celebration, security is keeping a close watch to ensure a safe and fun environment for families. As per regulations that seem more akin to airport protocol, only federally or state-issued IDs will pass muster at the gates for those 18 and over; non-citizens will need to present a valid foreign passport or similar identification to gain entry, as First Coast News also reports. It should go without saying — though saying it we are — leave your knives, your guns, practically anything sharper than a cotton candy cone back at home as Chilson stresses, bringing such an item is a guaranteed ticket to the nearest exit.
The Angels will headline, as confirmed by Action News Jax, just as they have since their 1946 inception and, if we're being honest, nobody commands the skies quite like them.
