Early this morning, a disturbing discovery was made in a pond near the intersection of Northwest 23rd Terrace and Sara Road, close to Lake Overholser, when a fisherman came across a body in a small body of water. KOCO 5 reported that the Oklahoma City Fire Department dive team was deployed to the site, to recover the body that was said to be in water approximately two feet deep, though the conditions were further complicated by the exceptionally muddy terrain.
Following the recovery of the body by rescue crews, the area, which is also not far from the John Kilpatrick Turnpike, has turned into an active investigation scene. The Oklahoma City Police also confirmed their presence and involvement after receiving reports of the body found, as documented by a report from KFOR. The identity, as well as the cause of death of the individual, have not yet been disclosed, as investigators are just beginning to piece together the circumstances surrounding the unsettling incident.
While many questions remain about this event, officials have confirmed that the body appeared to have been in the water for an extended period before it was found. This information was shared by the Oklahoma City Fire Department with KOCO 5, indicating that decomposition could complicate the identification of the deceased.
As the community awaits more details, local media, including FOX 25, are monitoring the situation, providing coverage from the scene. The incident has resonated with the local community, as Lake Overholser is a well-known area for outdoor activities, and news of such nature is particularly jarring. Nonetheless, as of now, authorities have not released any additional information but are expected to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
