The Boston Police Department's Drug Control Unit made another arrest for drug trafficking, bringing 29-year-old Jaylin Hawkins of Boston into focus on serious drug charges. The arrest occurred at a busy street corner in Roxbury and was part of a coordinated effort to address community concerns about widespread drug use, according to the Boston Police Department.
Yesterday, patrol officers observed two individuals involved in what appeared to be a drug deal, leading them to intervene and successfully arrest one suspect in possession of crack cocaine, who will face a summons in Roxbury District Court. The second suspect, Jaylin Hawkins, initially fled but was apprehended later that evening as officers continued their search.
When police located Hawkins at 2360 Washington Street, they discovered he had not only a bag of crack cocaine but also $607 in cash. His pockets contained evidence of trafficking, as officers found an additional approximately 38 grams of crack cocaine during his booking, suggesting involvement in distribution rather than personal use, according to the police report. "Hawkins was placed under arrest and charged with Trafficking of Class B, Distribution Class B, and Distribution of Class B Second Subsequent Offense," according to the Boston Police Department.
On court day, Hawkins will be arraigned for his alleged offenses in Roxbury District Court, where both the severity of the law and the quantity of drugs in his possession will be taken into account.
