The Boston Police Department (BPD) is increasing its awareness of the dangers associated with Halloween festivities, especially the risk of spiked drinks. A recent community alert from BPD highlighted the dangers of drugs like Rohypnol, GHB, and Ketamine, which can be difficult to detect but may cause harmful effects such as disorientation, confusion, and unconsciousness.
To promote safety, BPD has outlined several precautions for the public. Partygoers are advised to accept drinks only from bartenders or servers, keep an eye on their beverages, and carry their drinks with them when going to the restroom. BPD also recommends using drug test strips or special nail polish that changes color to detect certain substances. If someone experiences symptoms like dizziness or nausea, they should seek medical help immediately.
Alongside personal vigilance, the police department is promoting a community-wide 'buddy system.' This initiative encourages people to watch out for their friends and be alert to unusual behavior from acquaintances or strangers trying to isolate someone. If someone appears distressed or is alone and not dressed for the weather late at night, BPD asks the public to contact the police immediately.
