Ben Berg, CEO of Berg Hospitality, is rapidly transforming the Texas dining landscape, with his latest venture, Buttermilk Baby, setting up shop in Sugar Land Town Square. According to a recent report from the Houston Chronicle, Buttermilk Baby merges a retro dining experience with social media fervor, featuring a candy-striped theme and a color palette of pink and blue.
This new "cool casual" restaurant is part restaurant, part soda fountain, and features classic favorites like cheeseburgers and milkshakes, with swings and a unicorn statue adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. The partnership with Carvel, the iconic ice cream chain, is generating notable buzz, fueling customer interest with Carvel's beloved ice cream and cakes. With plans to open 10 locations across Texas, Ewing King, a principal at Read King and partner in Buttermilk Baby, told the Houston Chronicle, “There’s so much excitement about it and people are coming from all over the city.”
The first Buttermilk Baby location at M-K-T Heights has become a sensation since its inception, drawing in customers like Shelly Mahon, who withstood a long wait and hot temperatures to enjoy the nostalgic blend of burgers and ice cream. As mentioned in the Houston Press, the menu extends beyond desserts, offering home-cooked comfort food with a modern twist, from buttermilk biscuits to Texas wagyu beef burgers.
Buttermilk Baby is an extension of Berg's commitment to high-quality ingredients and unique dining experiences, as evidenced by the involvement of Brian Sutton, BHG’s VP of Culinary. Sutton, with a resume filled with global culinary experience and savvy, oversees a comfort food-centric menu that honors the vintage soda fountain concept. "It's blended the joy and happiness that comes with enjoying ice cream, Carvel ice cream specifically, with the delicious and decadent menu items from the Berg team," Marissa Sharpless, Carvel’s vice president of marketing, told the Houston Chronicle.
