A Calaveras County fugitive, Johnny Miller, aged 34, was detained by law enforcement on the afternoon of October 9 after being on the run in connection to serious offenses such as attempted murder and carjacking. According to a statement from the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, Miller was found at a property on Highway 88 in Stockton and was apprehended through the combined efforts of various agencies including the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force.
Miller's capture followed an issuance of a warrant stemming from violent incidents reported to have occurred in West Point in August, the suspect was considered highly dangerous and this led to the involvement of numerous law enforcement entities working together closely with the Calaveras County District Attorney's Office to facilitate his arrest. Despite initial attempts to flee officers on foot while apparently brandishing a firearm, Miller was taken into custody without incident and no injuries were reported, in the operation which saw collaboration between multiple teams from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office SWAT to the Stockton Police Department Air Support.
Upon his arrest, Miller was booked at the San Joaquin County Jail, and arrangements were made for his transfer to Calaveras County Jail, facing a slew of charges including attempted first-degree murder, assault with a firearm, and firearm possession by a prohibited person. The complex operation highlights the effectiveness of systematic cooperation between different branches of law enforcement, underscored by no harm coming to officers or the public.
Commendations were extended by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol to the operative bodies for their critical role and professionalism, citing the importance of multi-agency collaboration in ensuring the safety of the community.
