Cambridge Prepares for Festival-Filled Weekend with Street Closures and Event Details AnnouncedSource: Google Street View

Cambridge residents and visitors should prepare for a weekend full of activities and the accompanying traffic adjustments. According to a news release from the City of Cambridge, the FOUND Block Party is taking over Columbia St. for a community celebration this Saturday, October 5, from 12-5 p.m. To facilitate this event, the street will be closed from Bishop Allen Drive to Main St from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., impacting local traffic and parking.

Adding to the weekend's agenda is the Fall Classic 5K this Sunday, October 6, starting at 9:30 am at 64 Sidney St. Runners will race through several streets which will be closed in succession to ensure runners' safety, potentially disrupting the usual flow of the Sunday morning traffic. These closures include a portion of Sidney St., as well as stretches along Pacific St., Albany St., Mass. Ave., and several others between the times of 9 and 10:15 a.m., the city's traffic department reports.

The festivities continue with the much-anticipated Oktoberfest and HONK! Parade, which will fill the streets of Harvard Square with music and merry-making from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday. Road closures will abound in the area, including sections of JFK St., Brattle St., Church St., and Mt. Auburn St., with vehicle traffic being banned from Harvard Square as early as 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. that evening. The HONK! Parade will also feature a procession from Davis Square to Harvard Square along Massachusetts Avenue, creating rolling closures from noon until 1 p.m.

In conjunction with these public celebrations, the Harvard Square Black Owned Business Pop-up Market is scheduled for Sunday, with Palmer Street set to be closed from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. to accommodate the event. This market, which occurs weekly, showcases a variety of goods from local black-owned businesses and adds to the cultural offerings that residents can enjoy. This and the other scheduled events are part of a broader push to animate the urban environment with festivities that encourage community interaction and economic activity in these spaces.
